Uber Chicago Office

Uber has gone through many stages as a brand, transforming from a Silicon Valley "disrupter" into an approachable and diverse visionary. Uber is no longer just a ride-sharing company, but a versatile business that moves just about everything from people to food to freight. Gensler was tasked with designing Uber's new Chicago office in The Old Post Office, a 117-year-old building that was once the epicenter of Chicago's postal services.

Drawing parallels between the Old Post Office's history and Uber's diverse offerings our team embraced the idea of movement as our central theme. Our multi-disciplinary team worked closely together, blurring the lines between graphic, interior, and architecture to define the experience for Uber's second-largest hub.

I participated in the conceptual phase to create a cohesive story for the space and then ideated the environmental applications with the design team.

Guidebook

By drawing parallels between Uber's services, the site, and global culture at large, we created a framework and seven design drivers that provided a collective vision for our team regardless of discipline.

Set in motion

For this project, we embraced the idea of movement as a collective culture rather than an isolated event. We challenged ourselves to create spaces that set in motion by human interactions. This manifested itself in digital and analog experiences throughout the space.

Layering meaning

With the enormity of each floor, we designed these moments with the orientation and personalization of the user in mind. Users of the space will contribute messaging and continue to layer information onto these experiences.
